CCTM Club Championship Triathlon Results

What a great weekend for multisport on the coast! Saturday's Pub 2 Club was a huge success then we backed it up with a fantastic (and safe... well done everyone) Club Championships Triathlon.
We trialled the Bluff Beach swim and transition for the first time and it went great (special thanks to DSLSC, Aird Patrol and Aiden Kelly for looking after us). Many competitors entered both events and it was great to see James Hodge and Kate Warren take podiums in both events.

Club  up and coming stars Frazer Lyon (4th outright) & Sammii Koch were named Junior Club Champions.
Great results too from Brady Butcher (3rd outright), Matt Gaby, Andrew Watson, Jesse Purton & Sam Kelly just to name a few.

Well done to all the Tristar entrants for great racing as well.

We must thank our sponsors, Total Performance Sports/Adam Brooks Group; Derrico Cycles; Fairbrother; Inn-Dulgence Cafe; Danny Redman Massage and The Nut House Fruit Barn (thanks Benny!).  Please support these businesses as they support us.

Also, thanks very, very much to the many officials, marshals, helpers, parents and spectators that turned out to make this such a great day.

That's it for club competition this season... we want you all involved in the Devonport Triathlon on March 9th & 10th and we will be holding our Club Dinner sometime after that so stay tuned.

Results are now posted on the Results Page.

The 56-year-old qualified for the 55-59 age group of the prestigious Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon after finishing second in the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Phuket, Thailand, on December 4.
Parsons accepted a qualifying spot in the world championship race after the first placegetter withdrew.
"It will be by far the biggest achievement of my career, if I can finish," he said.
"I guess you could say it is every triathlete's dream to qualify for the Ironman World Championship."
Now in its 34th year, the championship will see about 1800 competitors from all over the world take to the start line in Kona.
In the non-wetsuit race, competitors swim 3.8km, complete a 180km bike ride through lava fields and finish with a gruelling 42km run in searing heat.
Parsons admitted he had moments of uncertainly about competing in the event, which is deemed one of the hardest endurance events in the world.
"It takes a lot of commitment to train for an event of this calibre," he said.
"I specialise in half ironman events, so this is a big step up.
"After I accepted the qualifying spot, I was in two minds as to whether or not I could do it but the opportunity was too great to pass up.
"This opportunity probably won't present itself again."
Parsons, who completed his first full ironman event in around 11 hours and 20 minutes, said he hoped to finish in Hawaii in under 12 hours.
He finished the Ironman 70.3 Championship in a time of 5hours 21 minutes and 18seconds, with the event consisting of a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21km run.
"It all depends on how I handle the heat," he said.
"I will travel over a week or two before the event to acclimatise."
The current course record was set last year by Australian triathlete Craig Alexander, whose winning time took him 8 hours 3mins and 56 seconds.
Parsons, who has been competing in triathlons for more than 20 years and has competed in numerous overseas events, said it was a love of keeping fit that kept him involved in the sport.
The race will be held on October 13.

Champion Ironwoman invited to coach youngsters

09 Dec, 2011 04:00 AM
TASMANIAN ironwoman Amelia Pearson has been invited to join the coaching panel for a national development camp to be held on the Gold Coast later this month.Triathlon's most talented youngsters will be at the camp which is to be held at Runaway Bay on December 16 to 21.
Pearson, the reigning Australian ironman titleholder, is heading towards a coaching career, and she will be joined by three-time world champion Peter Robertson, former Tasmanian Craig Walton, the Czech Republic's Jan Rehula and former world duathlon champion Jenny Alcorn.
Also involved is internationally acclaimed endurance coach Bobby McGee and national coaches Keiran Barry, Chris Lang, Dan Atkins and Josh White and Triathlon Australia's national coach development manager Wayne Goldsmith.
They will look after 45 triathletes aged between 16 and 19, with the coaches taking them through their paces and giving them an insight into what it takes to become an elite competitor.
The Tasmanian youngsters invited to take part are Launceston-based triathletes Natalea Smith, Jake Birtwhistle, Jonathan Butler and Lachlan Barnes.
Camp co-ordinator and Triathlon Australia national athlete development manager Craig Redman said the intensive racing and camp activities for the country's next generation of triathletes would serve as a major stepping stone in their careers.
``Triathlon is now one of the most competitive sports in the world and the racing is getting more and more intense, you cannot afford to have a weakness,'' he said.
``We have to ensure that our youngsters have the best possible skill development and skill acquisition to prepare them for what may lie ahead.
``We are genuinely excited about the next crop of juniors in Australia and we are determined to give them every opportunity to develop their skills.
``There are some outstanding prospects in this group and we have to show them what it takes to be an elite triathlete.
``Our aim is to have the best possible athletes ready for 2016 and 2020 and exposing them to the best coaches in the country will help them get there,'' he said.
Redman said it was exciting that someone like Robertson had put his hand up to be involved.
``You cannot buy his Olympic and world championship experience - put him together with the likes of Craig Walton and Jan Rehula and our other coaches and we could not ask for a better group,'' he said.
